ANTIDOTE (NL)

This is pogo punk in the UK ’82 traditional beer-fueled, no nonsense punk. These Dutch punk legends have been going strong since 1996, toured both Europe and America several times. But for the first time ever Sweden is going to get hit by their streetpunk and political hardcore punk rhythms.

BOMBFORS

Bombfors plays straight forward classic Swedish two-beat punkrock that makes you wanna sing along! Since the beginning in 1995 they have switched politics for childcare, broken relationships and old age. Their music revolve around the life they live and not how others should live theirs.

BURNING KITCHEN

In the second half of the 90′s, a new sound took shape as a dandelion, cracking the asphalt and concrete surface of Stockholm. The band who was to become one of the most  talked about, trend setting and appreciated was Burning Kitchen. With their simple, catchy yet frustrated punk rock they affected even the most notorious d-beat hardcore punks and grind freaks, causing them to sing along to their strong socio-political lyrics. Burning Kitchen released three 7″ EP’s and one 10″ vinyl during their existence and has since they threw in the towel been greatly missed by a lot of people. In June 2011 we will finally see Burning Kitchen rise like a phoenix from the ashes and light up the festival with a long awaited reunion gig.

CONFUSA (FI)

From Helsinki, Finland, have been cranking out their brand of intense punk since early 2005. Some might describe the band’s sound as a mix of classic Finnish and early 80′s California hardcore with a new wave twist and angst-filled yet poetic lyrics in their native language. Confusa toured (mostly Eastern) Europe very soon after they formed, making an impression with their energetic live performances and catchy tunes. Organizing the tour was possible through the members’ involvement with music and the Finnish scene for years before the band started, even though Confusa is the first “serious” band for many members.

DICK TRACY

Dick Tracy hails from northern parts of Sweden and has soon been around for two years. Their music could be described as powerviolence and acording to their neighbour they sound like shit. If you ask Emanuel (who plays in the band) and lots of other punks they are a really great live act that you will fucking regret if you miss!

EPA

The real name of this band is Klartgrabbenskahaenepamedsilvertejp&uffe, but since we can’t fit that on our posters we’ll call them by their nickname EPA. Smart lyrics, catchy choruses and a hell of an attitude sums this band up pretty good, so be sure to check them out at the festival! With a new album recorded in the legendary Evil Grill studio and a big role in the indipendent movie “Punkspark” they are now ready to perform at this year’s Punk Illegal.

EXHALE

Mixing Swedish and English lyrics with the battle between growling and screaming vocals Exhale delivers top notch grindcore. They have been around since 2004 and have in that time toured both Europe and the US, plus released two full-length albums. Their mix between fast grindcore and death metal pieces will please all fans of down-tuned extremity, and maybe even be an eye opener for all of you that haven’t discovered this music genre yet. LIFE SCARS (PL)

LIFE SCARS started at the beginning of 2008. From the very beginning it has been a project inspired by sentiment for old punk bands, in which the willingness to play punk, to convey certain thoughts and spend time with friends were more important than real skills. With the passing of time crust riffs appeared in our simple punk music. For fans of Post Regiment and La Fraction.

MEINHOF (UK)

With London as their base, Meinhof has delivered high quality hardcore punk since 2007. This trio has been a busy band since the start and has, despite its relatively short existence, been touring most parts of Europe as well as Japan and Brazil. There’ no doubt that their forum of choice is on stage and they use it well to mediate their catchy yet raw and intense hardcore punk and pissed off political messages. Meinhof played the festival in 2008 and did a great show. We are very happy to have them again in 2011. So raise your mohawk, lace your boots and wave your fist – Meinhof is back!

MONACHUS

This Swedish sludge/doom metal band started out almost a decade ago under the name ICOS. In 2009 artistic and personal indifferences, followed by a potential lawsuit about the band-name, took it´s toll on the band. Last year out of the ashes of ICOS, MONACHUS was created.
Expect inspiration and influences that range from Neurosis, Catharsis to His hero is gone and Kyuss to Isis.
When the sun sets in Munkedal prepare yourself for a dark, intense and devastating experience.

The power trio Nailbiter is back from the grave, and once again they are spreading their metallic d-beat hardcore across the borders.
With lyrics in English and Portuguese, influences from Scandinavia, members from Brazil and Italy (living in England and Holland) and nicknames in Japanese this is probably the most international act to perform at this year’s Punk Illegal!

The Gravedigger and the Teacher

There will be no real hill-billy party in Munkedal without a banjo and a contrabass. Luckily this country band from the northern parts of Sweden with there roots in punk scene has both! In the same political tradition as artist like Joe Hill, Utah Phillips, Euskefeurat and Woody Guthrie. The Gravedigger and the teacher will make you, dance, cry and clench your fist and sing along to the god old union songs.  The bands philosophy can be explained in seven short sentences: Play the banjo. Join the Union. Drive a truck. Hate the rich. Fuck the system. Drink and be merry. Dance the jig.  Hits from Hank III, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Hazel Dickens and Pete Seeger are promised and if we are lucky, maybe even some old punk tunes.

TUNA (BR)

Tuna is a word in Portuguese that means: students, vagabonds, punks, laziness lovers, outsiders that run a musical group and organize concerts, living almost like nomads..and it has nothing to do with the fish at all. And that sums up their sound pretty well. Brazilian punk rock with their hearts on the right place.

TWOPOINTEIGHT

Modern dirty punk rock from Stockholm, with a lot of heart and soul. The singer has such a hoarse voice that it will make your knees weak. Any day now their second album coming out, and it is about time, after they began playing in 1995 they have just released a full length album and that was in 2005. But the sound on the single “Guds Hand” their sound is still well groomed but in their veins runs true punk like The Clash and Rancid.

VITAMIN X (NL)

Vitamin X is a Trash/Punk/Hardcore band from Amsterdam, that was formed in 1997 with the idea of bringing fun and politics back to hardcore, make people laugh and think at the same time. Hyperactive and furious classic early 80´s style hardcorepunk with heavy riffs and wild guitar solos inspired from 70´s hardrock, but never letting up on the high energy trash punk. If you misses bands like DS-13, Tear It Up, Life´s Halt and wants to get totally thrashed, you cant miss this show with one of the best and most important hardcore/punk bands going on.
